Acne Care Treatments

Acne is a skin condition caused by over secretion of sebaceous glands. Excessive hormone secretion from the body causes oil and dead cells to block skin pores. Bacteria develops in those areas causing inflammation and pain in some cases, and this condition is commonly known as acne. Acne includes blackheads, whiteheads, cysts, pustules, or pimples, depending on the severity of the condition. Acne is common in teenagers due to hormone imbalance. Teenagers and adolescents have maximum proximity towards acne. Acne is not to be worried about in most cases, but in some cases, it can cause swelling and inflammation of the skin. There are several types of treatments available to help cure acne.

The first and foremost thing in acne care treatments is gentle handling of the skin. Mild antibacterial soaps and lotions should be used on the skin. It is highly recommended to avoid picking, scratching, or squeezing acne, which may result in permanent skin blemishes and scars. In case of serious acne problems, a dermatologist must be consulted. Dermatologists usually decide the type of treatment depending on various factors like skin type, seriousness of the acne problem, age, and sex of the patient.

The treatment varies according to the skin type of the patient. The patient may have normal, dry, or oily skin. A doctor may prescribe oral or topical medicines, or in some cases both, depending on the seriousness of acne. Topical medicines are those which have to be applied on the skin. They are prescribed in certain cases of simple acne problems. There are various lotions and medicines to lessen the severity of the condition. This heals the existing acne problem and avoids scarring of face. But in case of recurring acne problems, oral medications are prescribed which would stop or minimize the formation of new acne.

Medicines are prescribed to control hormones, which are believed to be the prime cause behind acne formation. The medication depends on the patient?s gender. Headaches, dizziness and sunburns after even brief exposure to the sun are some potential side effects of acne medications.
